Tip #1:

Facelifts

There are numerous types of facelifts, some are invasive and take months to heal, like the traditional facelift, while others like the facial firming procedure from Lifestyle Lift® are minimally invasive and allow ideal candidates to return home immediately after the procedure.
Before deciding on a facelift procedure, always spend time checking the various options thoroughly, and take a second opinion before you arrive at a final decision.

Tip#2:

Facelift Complications

If you are in the hands of an inexperienced cosmetic surgeon, a facelift can result in complications like damage to the facial nerves or the face developing a ‘pulled’, ‘stretched’ or ‘windswept’ look. It is therefore important to choose your surgeon for a facelift carefully; do extensive research - and make sure he is board-certified.

Tip#3:

Which Facelift?

The type of facelift that is best suited for a particular individual typically depends on the depth of the wrinkles and laxity of the skin. The type of facelift chosen will also determine costs. For example, the traditional facelift could cost as much as $15,000, while the facial firming procedure from Lifestyle Lift® may be as little as a third of that cost, for ideal candidates. Healing time is also a matter of days for the Lifestyle Lift® procedure and the effects are visible sooner.

Tip#4:

Choosing a Surgeon

If you are choosing a particular surgeon to have your cosmetic surgery, you must ensure he is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He should also have the requisite experience – at least 5 years or more - practicing the procedure he will be performing on you.

Tip#5:

Smoking and aging

Besides your lungs, your skin too will benefit from kicking the habit. The medical lexicon added the phrase “smoker’s face” in 1985 after the English doctor Douglas Model surveyed 116 patients and correctly identified about 50% of current smokers only by their facial features, which were distorted due to prematurely aged skin. This condition is characterized by deep wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, a dull grayish complexion and gaunt features.

Tip#6: Smoking and skin damage
Smoking is second only to sun damage when it comes to aging skin. Cigarette smoke restricts blood flow thereby reducing oxygen and nutrient supply to the skin. It is also dehydrating and prevents the skin from protecting itself by interfering with vitamin C absorption.

Tip#7: Frowning causes lines on your face
As skin ages it loses its elasticity. The lines formed on our faces by facial expressions such as frowning become permanently etched on our skin. But how do we stop involuntarily frowning? The answer lies in reducing stress. Try relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation, as well as gentle exercise. Be aware of your stress levels and your facial expressions through the day. Listen to music as a way to de-stress, take time out to pamper yourself and do things you enjoy.

Tip #8:

Stay young eating vegetables

Green leafy vegetables are low in calories and rich in Vitamin A, C, E, iron and fiber. Vitamin A has anti-oxidant properties while Vitamin E is excellent for healthy, smooth and younger-looking skin. You can also ensure your food contains garlic, which is high in anti-oxidants, which will help you look young. Another vegetable which contains the powerful anti-oxidant betacyanin is the humble beetroot. So don’t hesitate to rustle up some mouth watering grilled veggies, vegetable pie, green bean soup, steamed broccoli or some Tofu scramble, broiled tofu - you can also make some fantastic sandwich fillers with tofu.

Tip#9: Fruits can help you stay young
According to The Harvard School of Public Health a person who needs 2,000 calories a day would need at least 2 cups of fruit daily. While being low in calories fruits are low in fat and so should constitute a substantial part of your diet. Fruits are also a great way to stay healthy and youthful, keeping your skin clear, pliable and wrinkle-free. The vitamin C in Citrus fruits, strawberries, lemons and lime is essential for collagen production. Collagen helps the skin remain elastic and firm, which keeps the skin wrinkle-free.

Tip #10: Go fruity!
Researchers at the University of California have found that California peaches besides plums and nectarines are a good source of two anti-oxidants which promote longevity and protect the skin from damaging UV rays. Studies presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Second Annual International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research suggested that resveratrol (an anti-oxidant found in grapes) may have significant clinical benefits in decreasing the risk of skin cancer.

Tip#11: Water of Life
A person requires a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day. Another 20% of water comes from the food we eat. Water, besides being an internal cleanser, keeps your skin feeling soft, supple and more youthful. It also keeps you hair and nails healthier, decreases the sodium in the body, prevents you from snacking all the time, helps weight-loss by reducing water weight in the body and replenishes water lost during work and exercise.

Tip#12: Soya can help your skin look radiant
Soya is an excellent substitute to meat and is rich in proteins, amino acids, vitamin E and anti-oxidants. This component in soya help the skin retains its moisture, and keeps your skin looking smooth in appearance, besides improving its elasticity.

Tip#13: Some Fatty Acids can help you stay young

Acids like Omega-3 and Omega-6 are known as “good fats” and are amply found in fish. Omega-3 and Omega-6 helps the cells to function properly, helps keep the skin clear, prevents blemishes and reduces wrinkles! Additionally, these fats are required by the body and do not make you gain weight.

Tip#14: Beat those wrinkles with exercise

We all know that exercise encourages oxygen to pass through our bodies and increases blood circulation. The skin on your face also benefits from exercise, delaying the formation of wrinkles. Exercise also keeps your body in shape and makes you feel good. Researchers believe unhappy, unhealthy people often develop wrinkles earlier than their happier, healthier counterparts. So look the way you feel and feel the way you look.

Tip#15: Get gentle with your skin
By the time you’ve in your mid 40s, the skin becomes weak and is easily susceptible to damage and wrinkles. Understanding this fact is important, so that you can treat your skin gentler than before. You may also need to replace your perfumed soaps with products that are pH neutral and minimize your use of heavily chlorinated pools. Wash your skin in warm water, not hot or cold water, since both present a shock to your skin and remove vital oils.

Tip#16: Treat your skin according to the weather
Extremes of hot and cold weather can strip your skin of essential moisture, leaving it feeling dry and irritated. Central heating can also have the same effect. Ensure you moisturize twice a day, change your skin care routine to suit the weather conditions and drink lots of water or juices. In warm weather, lighter moisturizers feel more comfortable however in the winter months an oilier product is more suitable.

Tip#17: Makeup That Cares
Most makeup is loaded with chemicals that are either untested for long-term effects on your health, or contain potentially harmful ingredients. On an average day a woman may find herself using as many as 12 personal care products which may expose her to a whooping 175 unregulated chemicals and toxic ingredients, many of which have been linked to skin irritations, breast cancer, hormone problems, reproductive disorders, etc. They also speed up the appearance of wrinkles. It has been found that 60% of the makeup you wear gets absorbed into your skin. Look for non-toxic makeup!

Tip#18: Don’t forget to get your "beauty sleep"
During sleep your body secretes growth hormones that help repair and rebuild body tissues like muscle and bone. Having a good deep sleep for a minimum of 8 hours a day is a must to keep your skin glowing, delay wrinkles and keep your body fit. Good sleep is something which also keeps dark circles at bay. Many of the body’s cells also show increased production and reduced breakdown of proteins during deep sleep. Since proteins are the building blocks needed for cell growth and for repair of damage from factors like stress and ultraviolet rays, deep sleep may truly be "anti-aging sleep."

Tip#19: Take a Break!
One of the ways to stay young is to take a break and relax! Here’s a simple exercise; try it twice daily, for about 10 to 20 minutes each. Preferably sit in a quiet room, make yourself comfortable, close your eyes, relax your muscles one by one, breathe deeply, try to evade thoughts, all the mind keeping your mind on the present… it works.
