Improvements with Excess Skin Removal

After having lost 40 pounds through a vigorous program of diet and exercise, the fat looks like it is gone; but you are often confronted with an equally frustrating cosmetic problem - loose skin. For those who have undergone bariatric surgery, a tummy tuck, stomach stapling or other procedures, this problem can be much worse – as they have probably sustained extreme weight loss. Dealing with excess skin removal is supposedly achievable by lifestyle changes, diet and exercise; all more time-consuming methods. So what’s the good news then? Excess skin removal has come a long way in 40 years; there are now plenty of proven procedures that deliver results.

Let’s ask the stars…
We’ve all seen television and entertainment personalities from singer Carnie Wilson to recording star and American Idol judge Randy Jackson lose weight after lap band surgery. Surely, they struggled with loose skin? Did they have excess skin removal surgery?

So Is Surgery the Answer?
After extreme weight loss, surgery is the quick answer. Extreme weight loss necessitates excess skin removal and tightening around the trunk area. Body contouring is the most common procedure here, and can improve overall appearance. It can be done individually or in combination with liposuction or a tummy tuck.

Liposuction
An outpatient procedure, liposuction involves making numerous small incisions — about a quarter-inch each — and inserting a device to literally suck the fat out of the body. Excess skin removal procedures can be extensive, like the full body lift and lower body lift; and also less intensive localized procedures like the arm lift, thigh lift and even breast lift. Lower-body lifts include excess skin removal on the lateral sides through the hip and buttocks area, giving the waistline a slimmer appearance. These procedures require you to spend to several days in the hospital. Recovery time is usually about two to three weeks.

The Natural Course
Though surgery is the easy option to get back in shape, it’s not the only one. Natural excess skin removal can be achieved by hitting the gym and by a little smart dieting. When you lose fat and build up muscle to reduce the skin sagging which accompanies extreme weight loss, you’re already getting closer to the natural course of excess skin removal. Strength training exercises, increased water intake and a nutritious diet can all help with excess skin removal. Also remember: a varied workout will tone all areas of your body to keep you looking good everywhere. Building healthy muscles does not give you the license to start munching – and especially on the wrong kind of thing. You need firm muscles, not flabby fat.

Slow and Steady Gets in Shape
The best way to avoid loose skin is by taking a lesson from the old tortoise-rabbit tale. Lose weight slowly, about 1-2 pounds a week, for healthy weight loss. Sure, crash diets may do wonders if you want extreme weight loss; but the problem is that you also lose a lot of your body’s lean mass, which means you’ll have loose skin; which means you’ll start thinking about excess skin removal surgery!

Attaining perfect figure and weight are uphill tasks. There’s no substitute for regular exercise and healthy living. So hit the gym and make nutritious food part of your diet. Excess skin removal surgery is what you’ll have to start thinking of if all of this doesn’t work first…
